Nirav Desai, MD FACS FASMBS

Dr. Desai grew up in Columbus, Georgia, a southern city known for its charm. He studied in Chicago at Northwestern University. He completed medical school at Case Western Reserve University where he had the opportunity to train with many of the world’s most innovative physicians at the Cleveland Clinic. He discovered his second home during his residency in New York City. He completed his General Surgery Residency at Mount Sinai Beth Israel where he also discovered his passion for minimally invasive GI surgery. He accumulated a significant research background with several publications and presentations in the field of surgery.

Dr. Desai is an incredibly accomplished surgeon. Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery as a part of the Scripps Health System in San Diego, CA. He developed unique expertise in bariatric surgery working with the busiest practice in the state of California, the Pacific Bariatric Group, a cumulative experience of over 18,000 bariatric cases. He is trained in robotic surgery and certified to use the da Vinci robot system in his procedures. He also gained unique experience in foregut surgery; he specializes in performing laparoscopic hiatal hernia repairs and anti-reflux procedures. He has developed a unique experience with revisional surgery and utilizes advanced endoscopic techniques. He has been practicing with the New York Bariatric Group for over three years and has served as a guide for numerous patients through their weight-loss journey.

Dr. Desai is double board-certified in both surgery and medicine allowing him to utilize all potential tools to improve the lives of his patients. He is certified with the American Board of Surgery and is an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is also a certified diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine and offers medical weight loss opportunities.
