Rodrick McKinlay, MD, FACS

Dr. Rodrick McKinlay is a board-certified general and bariatric surgeon specializing in minimally invasive weight-loss procedures. A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), Dr. McKinlay has over two decades of surgical expertise. He is recognized for his compassionate approach, surgical precision, and commitment to long-term patient success.

Dr. McKinlay earned his medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine in 1997, graduating with honors in medicine and surgery. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Arizona, followed by a minimally invasive surgery fellowship at the University of Kentucky, concluding at the University of Maryland.

Since joining Rocky Mountain Associated Physicians in 2004, Dr. McKinlay has performed thousands of successful weight-loss operations, including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, duodenal switch, SADI-S and revisional bariatric procedures. He is an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and frequently lectures on best practices in bariatric care.

Outside the operating room, Dr. McKinlay is deeply involved in patient education and postoperative support, helping individuals achieve sustainable lifestyle changes. Fluent in Spanish, he enjoys spending time with his family, soccer, running, skiing, and engaging with literature and the arts.
